Maza Espresso Bar is a popular health-food restaurant located in West Village, New York that serves coffee, yogurt, fresh smoothies, juices, salads and Mediterranean snacks. All products are exclusive and consist in the nutritious facts that are necessary for a daily healthy diet. The Greek Yoghurt, the honey, the virgin olive oil, the fyllo dough, the feta cheese have been allies for more than 2000 years for our health and life expectancy.
My proposal uses symbolism and easy, simple language to communicate friendliness and natural health. The color palette and rough materials give a care-free tropical vibe. Maza’s architectural impression is that of a traditional brick wood-fired oven from which it is inspired. The use of form, material, and light creates a fireside atmosphere, not far from the archetypal Ancient Greek ‘Hestia’, a fireplace and center of the Ancient Greek home. Maza’s fiery brief is a warm welcome, turning the neighborhood into a ‘shared hearth’, charged by the energy of its guests.
